Welcome to the Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Centre. We are a facility supported by the Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Trust. The trust was
founded in 2007 by Lochmara Lodge to financially support and ensure the goals of the Wildlife Recovery Centre of rehabilitation, education, protection and enhancement are
achieved to the highest standard.
A proportion of all art sales at Lochmara Lodge
Arts Centre and a portion of the admission fee goes directly into the Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Trust.
Visitors to Lochmara Lodge can visit the Wildlife Recovery Centre facilities.
Eco Tours
Self guided eco tours are available around Lochmara Lodge. We have a network of educational signs informing you of plants, animals, history, geology, conservation projects
and much more. There is also interaction with endangered species breeding programs and not to mention the abundance of native birds.
Wildlife Rehabilitation
In partnership with the Department of Conservation we provide a facility for injured wildlife to be housed and nursed, until they can be released back into the wild. Until
now the recovery of injured wildlife has fallen in the hands of local DOC officers, with animals being nursed in back yards and living rooms.
Endangered species enhancement
In partnership with the Department of Conservation we are captive breeding native endangered species such as Gecko, Kakariki and Weka for education and the enhancement of
predator free areas.
Mainland island
We are controlling predator numbers and habitat planting in the Lochmara area, offering safe refuge for native species for you to view in the wild. |
