Proposed Marine Research and Education Centre
Here at Lochmara Lodge Wildlife Recovery and Arts Centre we plan to build a marine research and education centre to help build a sustainable marine environment in the Marlborough Sounds. This project will be developed by Lochmara Lodge Wildlife Recovery Centre Charitable Trust.

Education – Educate the public so they are aware of the problem, give them the solution to the problem, so they can help solve the problem. Bring school groups through and educate the next generation so they can learn new ways of fishing and not make the mistakes of the past.

Tourist – Develop a unique facility so it becomes a must-do destination for tourists so it is self-funding, contributes to the local economy and creates jobs.

Research – Create a facility for research so we have the science to make the right decisions to manage the marine environment in a more sustainable way. A modern facility utilised by universities, schools, Iwi, visiting international marine biologists etc, who can help us understand and improve our marine environment.

Enhancement – Hold a number of blue cod so natural reproduction occurs, replenishing the local population. Hatch and on-grow juveniles for possible enhancement throughout the Marlborough Sounds.

If we want our children and grandchildren to enjoy what we have enjoyed, we need to get on with the job of managing this resource.

If you would like to support this worthy cause please email us at enquiries@lochmaralodge.co.nz.
